We did this last year and I thought it went well. Respond in the comments section with your prediction on each topic. Winner at the end of the year will receive a shout out. *I didn't mention this at first, but predicting a push is allowed*
David Fluellen rushing yards
Thoughts: Fluellen ran for 1,498 yards a year ago despite missing all or big chunks of four games. Reaching that total again will be difficult because A) The staff wants to limit his touches to preserve his body. B) Freshman Kareem Hunt looks to be a future star and needs carries for developmental purposes. C) Well, rushing for a shade under 1,500 yards is exceptionally difficult.
Logan Woodside pass attempts
Thoughts: The true freshman will back up Terrance Owens at quarterback but might not get many mop-up chances throughout a daunting schedule. Last year's back up, Austin Dantin, attempted 88 passes but that was with two starts.
Jeremiah Detmer's consecutive field goal streak
Thoughts: Detmer closed last year making 17 straight field goals. He is very good. Perhaps as good a player at his position as anyone on the team. How long will the streak last?
Over/Under: 25.5 (meaning 8.5 straight to start the season)
True freshmen to start a game
Thoughts: Marquise Moore will be the first Saturday at Florida. Defensive backs DeJuan Rogers, Jordan Martin, and Delando Johnson could at some point join him. Kareem Hunt, Rodney Adams, and Logan Woodside are an injury away from moving up to No. 1 on the depth chart.
Bernard Reedy touchdowns off kickoff/punt returns
Thoughts: Reedy had four of them a year ago. One must imagine special teams coordinators will wise up and order the ball kicked away from him, reducing his touches.
Percentage of offensive red zone trips ending with a touchdown
Thoughts: UT was among the nation's best in 2011 (75 percent) and among the worst in 2012 (44 percent). We'll average the two to come up with the over/under.
Over/Under: 59.5 percent
Thoughts: Gone are four of the top five tacklers from a year ago, including Dan Molls who led the nation. Cheatham Norrils is the top returner with 74 stops.
Pick one: MLB Chase Murdock, WLB Junior Sylvestre, cornerback Cheatham Norrils, the field.
Jayrone Elliott sacks
Thoughts: He had six a year ago playing mostly against obvious passing situations. He should play more this year on first and second down but he'll still do his most damage on third.
Thoughts: UT gave up 10 in 2011 (unbelievably low) and 26 in 2012. Four of five starters are back. We average the past two seasons to come up with the over/under.
Regular season wins
Thoughts: Brutal schedule, but the Rockets should go no worse than 5-1 at home. To clarify, we're counting only regular season wins. MAC title game and bowl game have no bearing.
