Surely it is, but when we think of league rivalries we typically think of them being renewed the 11th or 12th week of the regular season. UT and BG will meet up in week 3 in 2012, kicking off the MAC season. I don't like it, but I suspect attendance will be higher than it has been in recent seasons given the nice weather typically seen in mid September. Still, there's a chance UT and BG could stumble into this game at 0-2 (UT opens with road games at Arizona and Wyoming; BG will get stomped by Florida before playing a more maneagable Idaho). That might scare off some fair-weather fans.
Here's the remainder of UT's schedule with commentary. The league schedule was released Thursday. Non-conference slate has been known for a while.
Toledo
1 at Arizona
8 at Wyoming
15 Bowling Green-It doesn't feel right, but this won't be the first rivalry played in September. Miami-Florida State have done it in the past.
22 Coastal Carolina
29 at Western Michigan
Oct.
6 Central Michigan (homecoming)
13 at Eastern Michigan
20 Cincinnati
27 at Buffalo - UT should be 3-1 in October, with a chance to knock off Cincinnati and go 4-0. It's a very workable month.
Nov.
6 Ball State, 8 p.m. (ESPN2) -Tuesday game
14 at Northern Illinois, 9 p.m. (ESPN2/ESPNU) -Wednesday game, and we'll all be dragging Thursday morning
20 Akron, 7 p.m. (ESPN2) - Tuesday game
