ODOT contractors didn't waste any time removing the pavement from Drouillard Road after closing it this morning. The road is closed for realignment into its intersection with the future route of Wales Road, which will shift to the south in this area when bridges at two nearby sets of railroad tracks open late next year.
The realigned Drouillard is scheduled to open in late October. The official detour route uses Wales, State Rt. 51, I-280, and Union Street in Walbridge. Lemoyne Road or East Broadway may be more direct options, although the East Broadway option crosses so many railroad crossings that the odds of being blocked by a train are especially strong.
