Memorials: Montrese Moore

I was on my way to work this morning, driving on Bancroft toward Cherry -- just as I do five days out of the week -- and just happened to glance over at Jerome Street.

Not for any reason, just turned to look out the window. A memorial I'd never seen before caught my eye. And, for the split second I thought about it, I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out who died there. I turned around and went back, quickly recognizing the man pictured on the white T-shirt as Montrese Moore, who was killed last month in a gang-related shooting.

Police have arrested and charged Kevin Jamalvenson James, 20, in connection to the death.

City memorials

Has anyone else noticed how many memorials there are around the city? Tokens, photos, T-shirts left where someones friend or family member died. They seem to pop up almost instantly as a way to make sure the deceased is remembered and that, hopefully, they know they are/were loved and are/will be missed.

Memorials break my heart.
