Marquise Chandler was their leader.
He and his buddies in the Beehive gang claimed territory on and around Islington Street, the same neighborhood where the 21-year-old gang member was shot in the head.
Chandler was shot in front of 349 Islington St. on April 14, 2010. He collapsed in the driveway of the now vacant house in Toledo's central city and, the next day, was pronounced dead at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. His cousin, Josean Flemming, then 17, was shot in the head then, too, and was found at 2549 Brentwood Ave. He survived.
Others were around when the shooting happened. Surely someone saw something, police speculate.
Police said, all those years ago, that the shooting on Islington was likely related to a shooting two days prior in the 700 block of Fernwood Avenue. Five men were struck witih rounds from a pellet gun, police said.
The shootings took place in rival gang territories: the Beehive, now mostly defunct, are Crips; the Fernwood shooting took place in Lil Head territory, Bloods.
