Jestin Beserra, 30, of 6337 Northridge Ln., is charged with assault, obstructing official business, and two counts of resisting arrest. He was arraigned today in Toledo Municipal Court; his bond was set at $25,000.
Toledo police Sgt. Erik Kenney wrote in a police report that he went to the suspect's home for a warrant service – a felony larceny charge out of Monroe. The sergeant stopped Beserra, told him he had warrants, and grabbed the back of the man's shirt.
The sergeant said the suspect put his hands behind his back, but when the sergeant went to handcuff the suspect, he allegedly pulled away and swung at Sergeant Kenney, hitting him on the left side of the face.
The sergeant reports hitting the suspect before the suspect turned away, ripping his T-shirt, and running into a wooded area.
Officers found the suspect hiding in a “bushy area” in the 300 block of East State Line Road.
The suspect was treated for “three minor cuts to his head/face,” according to a police report.
Beserra is due in court again Sept. 10.
