Robert Moore, of 1460 South Ave., is charged with one count of felonious assault for the Jan. 9 shooting, that injured Trevon Gist, 21. He is also charged with obstructing official business for running from police.
Police spotted Moore, who was formally charged with the shooting on Jan. 18, at Elizabeth and Tecumseh streets in South Toledo Friday night and attempted to stop him.
In a complaint filed in Toledo Municipal Court, a police officer wrote that, when officers approached Moore, who was riding a bicycle, Moore ditched his bicycle and fled on foot.
Officers were able to stop Moore, who is being held in the Lucas County jail pending arraignment, which is scheduled for Monday morning.
I remember this shooting.
If you click on the linked text above, it will take you to a story I did in January about the shootings in 2012. Amy Voigt and I were working on that story -- we were way out by the Byrneport Apartments -- when my editor, Kim, called to say there had been a shooting near downtown. Nolan Rosenkrans was already on his way, but Amy and I headed that way, too, since our story was about shootings and we were already out.
Somehow we managed to make it there before Nolan, who was coming from The Blade. Probably because getting to the Port Lawrence is a little confusing if you aren't totally sure what you're doing.
There were cops everywhere -- you had the normal Toledo police contingent, but you also had maybe a dozen Lucas County sheriff's deputies. Some of them were working a project through LMHA, and others might have just been nearby.
We ended up having some great interviews there. The kid I lead the story with, Eric Anderson, who himself had been shot in 2012, was quite loquacious. That almost never happens.
Journalism gods at work.
