Gands Ryan

Hey Taylor. I love the blog and, as a fellow journo, I get gallows humor. But I think posting the image of your cake crossed a line. I say this as a reporter whose brother-in-law was brutally murderded when he was stabbed by three teens and left to die a slow, horrible death, bleeding out for several hours facedown in a city park. (In a scene that was probably reminiscent of your cake's design.) It's easy to become desensitized to the violence we cover but remember that there is always a family behind the scanner report of a murder.

Hi Sarah,
So sorry to hear about your brother. I have two younger brothers ... I can't even imagine.

I have -- or by the time you see this/if you see this reply -- moved the picture behind a 'cut' so it's not plainly visible. Hardly makes a difference, especially this late after the post went live yesterday afternoon, but at least it's less obnoxious.

Thank you for the thoughts and making me think twice. Sounds silly, but sometimes I forget this isn't a "Taylor space."

I'm Taylor Dungjen, crime reporter for The Blade. I've been covering crime in the Glass City since March, 2011. Lots has happened around here since then and, I'm sure, there's more to come. But what you see in print or on our Web site, toledoblade.com, is only a fraction of what goes on and there's always more to the story. I'm inviting you on a ride along as I cover crime in and around Toledo. Check back often for strange news, shenanigans, behind-the-scenes information you won't get anywhere else, and ramblings on my life as a crime reporter for 'one of America's great newspapers.'
