Bless her heart, Jean Keating's Wendy is getting a small taste of motherhood.
The four pups that are staying with Jean for the rest of their foster period are confused and think she is their mom, Nellie, and have been trying to nurse from her.
"Wendy just stands there with a surprised look in her face," Jean says. "They all follow her trying to latch on. She tolerates it well."
Poor Wendy never got to nurse her own mother for very long. Wendy, now 2 years old, was one of the first “pit bull” puppies spared by the Lucas County Dog Warden and transferred to the Toledo Area Humane Society. She was adopted by Jean, who is the Lucas County Pit Crew Co-Founder along with Michelle Lawrence.
Obviously, Wendy was promptly spayed and never had any babies of her own. But now that she has pups in the house (and presumably, underfoot) she is getting to see what it might have been like if she'd had pups. Who knows, she might even start producing milk. Although since she is spayed, it's highly unlikely. In any case, the pups don't need the nutrition. They have huge teeth and are eating just fine on their own.
If you haven't checked out the pups' Petfinder writeups and pictures, you really should. Michelle did a fantastic job putting them together.
Here are the profiles for Fergus, Beckham, Liam, Aiden, Ciara, Cassidy, Bono, and Keegan
And let's not forget Miss Nellie, too!

Aww, very sweet.
