Your opinion means a lot in shaping what kind of community and world you live in. We hope you think ours does, too.
For more than 175 years, The Blade has not only reported the news in northwest Ohio, and beyond, but also empowered its readers by helping them make sense of the day’s events through informed commentary.
The Blade opinion page continues to serve as a gathering place for a community conversation and exchange of ideas.
A lot has changed since The Blade started publishing in 1835. The Internet and social media have made the business of news far more immediate and -- for you the reader -- much more participatory and engaging. The Blade’s web page, one of the nation’s best, has done an outstanding job of presenting the news almost as it happens, and giving its readers a forum to comment and participate.
But up to now, The Blade editorial page has mostly reflected the content of the print product. Days may pass before The Blade Editorial Board tells you what it thinks about an important issue in metro Toledo, Ohio, the United States, or the world -- and invites you to offer your own views.
Starting today, however, with a web-page blog entitled “Our View,” we will begin offering our take on certain big breaking stories almost immediately.
Soon, you’ll see other changes from the editorial board as well, as Blade Editor David Kushma, Deputy Editorial Page Editor Jeff Gerritt, Associate Editor Keith Burris, and cartoonist Kirk Walters launch their personal web-page blogs to give you their personal views and insights on what’s going on.
You won’t find stuffy, self-important pronouncements from on-high, but urgent invitations to join the conversation.
We’ll talk to you later.
