I can't believe I've lived in Sylvania for nearly four months now. The time has flown by quickly and I still haven't had time to check out all of the local favorite restaurants everyone has been telling me about. Since my Blade co-worker Ashley recommended Mayberry Diner a few weeks ago, I knew it was the perfect day to check it out yesterday, when one of my friends from back home visited.
It's great how you always know a place serves good food, when you drive up and the parking lot is full. This can be said about Mayberry Diner, which didn't have nearly an open table at 10 a.m. that Sunday morning. Serving up breakfast and lunch, the restaurant has a variety of options — from healthy, low-cal plates, to many different flavors of pie and other delicious dessert options.
My friend and I chose to share the Irish Omelet, which had corned beef hash, green peppers, cheese and other vegetables, wrapped up in buttery eggs. It also came with some shredded potatoes and a biscuit. The choice to share happened after we looked over at the table next to us when they got their food delivered and saw the portion sizes are pretty large. Opting to be a little healthier, we found that sharing the omelet was actually a really good idea — we felt neither over-stuffed or hungry, when we left the diner an hour later.
Three other things about the diner:
-
The wait staff really takes care of customers. Our waitress stopped by the table to ask if we wanted more coffee, before our cups were even empty.
-
They have a pie list, on the wall, with at least 5-6 flavors. There's something for everyone, really.
-
It's in the Mayberry Shopping Square, which has many other neat, not to mention local, shops for Sylvania residents to check out after a meal.
Mayberry Diner is located at 8253 Mayberry Square S, in Sylvania. The restaurant can be reached via phone at 419-824-3399. They are open seven days a week.
