ANN ARBOR - The Michigan media contingent has been hearing this a lot in regards to running back Thomas Rawls, that he's "running angry."
"It's running real physical," said Rawls, who is competing for a starting spot at tailback with the indefinite suspension of Fitz Toussaint. "You can't be hit. It puts you in a zone to where there's no fear. It's all fun, but you're taking care of business.
"It's just a mentality you've got to have. It starts with your heart."
Is he mad all the time? Not exactly. During Sunday's media day at Michigan, the redshirt junior is actually quite affable away from the football field.
"I'm a different guy on the field than off the field," said Rawls, who says he's fully recovered from a left shoulder separation that nagged him at the start of the 2011 season.
Another one for the nicknames file: Quarterback/wide receiver Devin Gardner said he has bestowed a new moniker upon Clay graduate Jordan Kovacs.
"The Great White Safety," Gardner said. "Think the Great White Shark."
Two words for those of the faint of heart: Food chain.
