It's never too early to start making predictions, right?
Via Twitter, Phil Steele's College Football 2012 places Michigan in a bowl game on Jan. 1, 2013 - and not the bowl game on which the Wolverines have set their eyes/hearts/hopes. The annual publication predicts Michigan will finish second in the Big Ten and face Georgia in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
The Wolverines have made it clear that their ambition this season is to win the Big Ten title and, hence, earn a berth in another January 1 football game - the heralded Rose Bowl.
“We’d like to be back here in January and this is just another tool to get us ready,” Michigan coach Brady Hoke told the Pasadena (Calif.) Sun in May after the Wolverines toured the Rose Bowl as part of a California trip that included training with the Navy SEALS and working at youth football camps.
Not only does the Capital One Bowl overlap with the Rose Bowl, it also overlaps with another major event a few miles up the road from Toledo: the NHL's 2013 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings. Ever imagine the day you'd see beer sales at the Big House? That day will soon arrive. Michigan governor Rick Snyder has signed off on a liquor license for Michigan Stadium, good for 30 consecutive days. Could it make the stadium one of the world's largest outdoor taverns?
