Nearly four months before the official kickoff of college football, the watch lists are already starting to roll in - Clay graduate and Michigan safety Jordan Kovacs is one of 42 players on the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list, released today. The Lott IMPACT Trophy is given annually to the top defensive player in Division I, for both athletic and character attributes. Boston College's Luke Kuechly won the 2011 Lott IMPACT Trophy.
Kovacs had 75 tackles (51 solo and 24 assisted), four sacks and one interception in 12 games last season for the Wolverines.
Kovacs is one of nine Big Ten players on the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list, joining Illinois linebacker Jonathan Brown, Purdue defensive tackle Kawaan Short, Michigan State linebacker Max Bullough, Wisconsin linebackers Mike Taylor and Chris Borland, Penn State linebacker Gerald Hodges, Nebraska defensive tackle Baker Steinkuhler and Ohio State defensive tackle John Simon.
