A few quick BG football notes

A fews notes regarding the BG football team after attending Wednesday's practice. ...

First, at the end of practice Wednesday I saw sophomore WR Chris Gallon wearing a walking boot on his right foot.

Coach Dave Clawson said Gallon has a minor fracture of a bone in his foot and will not need surgery. Gallon will not return for the rest of spring ball, but Clawson said the injury should be healed in time for him to start getting ready for the season by June at the latest, and possibly May.

Outside of bumps and bruises, Clawson said there were no other injuries of note -- certainly no injuries that would keep a player out at the start of fall camp in August.

Second, BG announced Thursday that Shaq Hall has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.

Hall saw action in three games last season -- Rhode Island, Akron, Miami. While he did not have any tackles, he was credited with a quarterback hurry.

Finally, Bowling Green has received its first verbal commitment for the 2014 season as Brian Sanders of Cass Tech in Detroit pledged to BG late last month.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-1, 215

HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Loxahatchee, Fla./Seminole Ridge

BY THE NUMBERS: Shepherd was a key player for the Hawks, who advanced to the Class 8A regional finals. He was named to the Palm Beach Post All-Area second team and also was second team All-Palm Beach County. As a senior Shepherd posted 15 tackles for loss and five sacks.

WORTH NOTING: Shepherd was coached by Matt Dickmann, who graduated from nearby Napoleon High School.

BG football recruit 2013 – Omar Pierre-Louis

Here's a thumbnail look at one of the high school players who is expected to sign with the Falcons Wednesday, defensive back Omar Pierre-Louis.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-0, 180

HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Loxahatchee, Fla./Seminole Ridge

BY THE NUMBERS: Pierre-Louis was a key player for the Hawks, who advanced to the Class 8A regional finals. On defense he finished with 38 tackles, 11 passes broken up and two interceptions, giving him 16 picks for his career. He was named to the Palm Beach Post All-Area team and also was first team all-state. He also played wide receiver on offense and caught five passes for 76 yards and a touchdown.

WORTH NOTING: Pierre-Louis was coached by Matt Dickmann, who graduated from nearby Napoleon High School.

Here's a thumbnail look at one of the high school players who is expected to sign with the Falcons Wednesday, defensive tackle Shannon Smith.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-1, 290

HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Chicago/Marist

BY THE NUMBERS: Smith posted 81 tackles despite playing defensive tackle. He also had 12 sacks as a senior. He was voted All-Illinois first team by the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association and was a member of the Chicago Tribune Dream Team.

Here's a thumbnail look at one of the high school players who is expected to sign with the Falcons Wednesday, tight end Hunter Folkertsma.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-6, 235

HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central

BY THE NUMBERS: Folkertsma had 25 catches for 516 yards, an average of 20.64 yards per catch, with eight touchdowns. He was an all-conference selection who was named to the Grand Rapids Press Dream Team (as an offensive lineman, even though he played tight end).

Here's a thumbnail look at one of the high school players who is expected to sign with the Falcons Wednesday, defensive tackle Darius Holiday.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-3, 275

HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage

BY THE NUMBERS: Holiday started as a junior and senior for the Patriots, finishing with 14 sacks combined in those seasons. Was named to the all-county team as a senior.

Here's a thumbnail look at one of the high school players who is expected to sign with the Falcons Wednesday, running back Brandon English.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5-8, 180

HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Orlando, Fla./Evans

BY THE NUMBERS: English carried the ball 155 times for 975 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, also catching nine passes for 221 yards and two more scores. He helped lead the Trojans to the Class 8A regional semifinals and a 9-3 record. English also played in the Central Florida All-Star Game.

Here's a thumbnail look at one of the high school players who is expected to sign with the Falcons Wednesday, tight end Logan Larson.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-4, 255

HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Pleasant Plains, Ill.

BY THE NUMBERS: Larson played fullback, tight end and defensive end as a junior while playing running back/defensive end while also kicking for the Cardinals. This season he led Pleasant Plains High School to just its second state playoff appearance and first victory this season. He was named first-team all-area as a running back this season after being named first-team all-area as a defensive end as a junior.

Here's a thumbnail look at one of the high school players who is expected to sign with the Falcons Wednesday, running back Marcus Levy.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5-10, 185

HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Fort Pierce, Fla./Central

BY THE NUMBERS: Levy finished with 809 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns in nine games for the Cobras, missing a pair of contests because of injury. … As a junior he ran for 1,382 yards and 18 TDs in 11 contests.

WORTH NOTING: Levy originally committed to Cincinnati last summer, but backed off that commitment when Butch Jones left to become coach at Tennessee.

Here's a thumbnail look at one of the high school players who is expected to sign with the Falcons Wednesday, running back Eric Harrell.

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5-8, 190

HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips

BY THE NUMBERS: Harrell carried the ball 255 times for 1,459 yards and 25 touchdowns for Dr. Phillips. He also caught 24 passes for 204 yards. He helped the Panthers to a deep run in the Class 7A state playoffs. Harrell was named to the Orlando Sentinel All-Central Florida second team. ... As a junior he carried the ball 177 times for 1,135 yards and 14 touchdowns.
