On Monday the coach of the San Jose State football team, Mike MacIntyre, was named the new football coach at the University of Colorado.
What does that mean for the Falcons' opponent in the Military Bowl on Dec. 27? That's a question that will be answered in the next few days, when the Spartans decide on a coach to lead them into the bowl game -- and beyond.
Here are links to a few stories about the situation at San Jose State ...

Judging from Durkin's story, it's hard to believe MacIntyre will coach the Spartans in the bowl game. It seems one of the assistants will likely be named as an interim coach, most likely defensive coordinator Kent Baer. Since MacIntyre is considered a "defensive-minded" coach, it's likely there wouldn't be many changes in terms of scheme or style of play for the bowl game.
It will be interesting to see how the San Jose State team reacts to this situation. It can become a rallying point and a bonding moment for the team, or it can lead to things falling apart for the bowl contest.
I'll update this post with more from San Jose State, including a link to the story when athletics director Gene Bleymaier, which is expected to be announced in the next few days.
UPDATE: Durkin reports in today's Mercury News that SJSU defensive coordinator Kent Baer will coach the team in the bowl game.
Click here to read Durkin's story about the announcement of Baer as interim head coach. I thought this story was interesting in that it said the uncertainty of the coaching situation was "weighing on the player's minds." Will that affect their preparation and performance in the Military Bowl?
