Here are a few notes and quotes from Wednesday's practice and coach Dave Clawson's weekly press conference ...
- First, an injury update -- where the news isn't as good as it has been in recent weeks. Coach Dave Clawson said the Falcons lost one player to injury during the Toledo contest, and may lose another.
Clawson said junior DT Jairus Campbell will not play against Virginia Tech because of a foot injury. What's more, Campbell is seeing a doctor today, and according to Clawson, "We await further word on the injury, but it could potentially be season-ending."
Also, junior WR Shaun Joplin did not practice with the team Wednesday and is listed as "questionable" for Saturday's game because of a sprained foot. Joplin was held out of Tuesday's practice and tried to go through drills at the start of practice Wednesday. But Joplin wasn't able to complete Wednesday's drills to a point where he could practice with the team, so he was held out of the rest of practice. Clawson said Joplin will try to practice again Thursday.
Campbell and Joplin are added to an injury list that includes DL Hunter Maynard, who is out for the season, and WR Bart Tanski, who no longer is wearing a sling but still is rehabbing a broken collarbone and is not practicing with the team.
- While the BG defense struggled to stop the Rockets' offense Saturday, Clawson said the defense did do many things right. In particular he noted several areas in which the Falcons did well against Toledo.
"We wanted to limit their running game, we wanted to control Bernard Reedy, and we didn't want to have Terrance Owens have breakout runs," Clawson said. "I think it's a credit to the level of play that Owens is playing at -- he's playing very well. We've got to get better at defending the pass, but I thought our guys played with tremendous effort, and played with a lot of heart."
- Clawson said he thinks the team has bounced back from the disappointing loss to prepare for the game at Virginia Tech.

JW - Nice 'line' in your write up . . .
"For BG, this cupcake is the perfect dessert after a September diet filled with Gators and Gobblers."
