The dates, times and opponents for the Bowling Green men's basketball teams' games in the 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off were announced Tuesday.
The Falcons will play a pair of games at Michigan's Crisler Arena on Nov. 12-13, 2012. On the first day BG will face Cleveland State in a contest that tips off at 6 p.m., while the second contest features the host Wolverines and IUPUI in a game that starts at 9 p.m.
The two winners and two losers will meet the next day, with one game starting at 5 p.m. and the other beginning at 8 p.m. The times for the consolation and championship games have not been set -- so yes, the championship game could be at 5 p.m. and the consolation game at 8 p.m.
The winner of this "pod" will advance to Madison Square Garden for one of two semifinal games to be played on Nov. 21, with the consolation and championship games of the tournament to be played Nov. 23 at MSG.
Teams that do not advance to New York City will play in third- and fourth-round games Nov. 19-20 on the campus of the three highest remaining seeds. Those games obviously cannot be set until after the games of Nov. 12-13 are played.
The top four seeds (or host schools) for the event are No. 1 Michigan, No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 Kansas State and No. 4 Pittsburgh. The next four seeded schools are No. 5 Lehigh, No. 6 Robert Morris, Cleveland State at No. 7 and No. 8 Delaware.
Cleveland State finished 22-11 last season and placed second in the Horizon League with a 12-6 record. The Vikings played in the post-season NIT and lost a first-round game at Stanford.
Michigan posted a 24-10 record a year ago and earned the Big Ten co-championship with a 13-5 record. The Wolverines lost a first-round game in the NCAA Tournament to BG's Mid-American Conference rival, Ohio.
IUPUI had a 14-18 record in 2011-12, and the Jaguars were 7-11 in the Summit League.
