MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: The men will run next at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville, Ohio, on Saturday, Sept. 29. Last Saturday the Falcons finished fifth of six teams at the Buffalo Stampede Invitational. Leading the way for BG was senior Josh Franek, who placed 17th in the 8,000-meter race with a 26:00.7 clocking.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: The next race for the Falcons will be at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Cedarville University of Saturday, Sept. 29. BG placed second at the Buffalo Stampede Invitational last Saturday, and the Falcons were led by junior Abby Koch, whose time of 18:03.09 in the 5,000-meter race ranked third.
MEN'S GOLF: The Falcons’ next competition will be at the Cardinal Classic hosted by the University of Louisville on Monday, Sept. 24. Last week BG placed fifth at the John Piper Intercollegiate on Sept. 17-18 at Stoneridge Golf Club. BG was led by senior Wes Gates, who fired rounds of 66-69-71 to finish at 206 and win the tournament by a whopping 12 strokes.
WOMEN'S GOLF: The next match for the Falcons will be at the Cleveland State Invitational starting Monday, Sept. 24. Last week BG finished 13th at the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State on Sept. 15-16. Leading the way was junior Bailey Arnold, who finished 39th with a 235 total. Another part of the team finished second among eight teams at the Ursuline College Fall Tournament on Sept. 14. Sophomore Patricia Holt carded a 77 to second second, one shot off medalist honors, while junior Kelsey Benson and freshman Lauren Diehl finished fifth and sixth with scores of 83 and 84.
MEN'S SOCCER: The Falcons will host nationally ranked Akron on Saturday, Sept. 22, starting at 7 p.m. to open Mid-American Conference play before returning to Cochrane Field to host Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Tuesday, Sept. 25, starting at 6 p.m. Last week BG defeated Cleveland State 1-0 on Friday before losing at home to Detroit 2-0. The Falcons are now 2-3-2 on the season. Sophomore Danny Baraldi leads the team with three goals and six points, while freshman Ryan James, junior Anthony Grant and senior Chris McLean each have a pair of assists. Defensively, junior goalkeeper Michael Wiest has a 1.07 goals-against mark.
WOMENS SOCCER: The Falcons will begin Mid-American Conference play with a contest against Ohio on Friday, Sept. 21 at Cochrane Field starting at 7 p.m. The on Sunday, Sept. 23 BG will host Kent State beginning at 1 p.m. Bowling Green is 1-7-0 this season after suffering a 2-1 loss at home to Illinois State on Sept. 14, then dropping a 1-0 decision to Loyola (Ill.) on Sept. 16. Sophomore Sidney Huth took over the team lead in scoring with a pair of goals good for four points, while juniors Tracy Togba and Madelin Wideman are next with a goal and an assist. Senior goalkeeper Becca Ison has a 2.90 goals-against average while freshman Jenna Underwood was in goal for both games last weekend and has a 2.26 goals-against average.
TENNIS: The Falcons will host the BGSU Invitational at Keefe Courts on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 21-22. Last weekend BG’s players combined for a 16-9 record, including an 11-6 mark in singles, in the Ohio State Muirfield Village Collegiate Championships in Columbus. Juniors Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland lost in the doubles title match, while Reuland was knocked out of the singles bracket in the semifinals.
VOLLEYBALL: The Falcons will open their home schedule –- and their Mid-American Conference schedule -– when they host Ohio at the Stroh Center on Friday, Sept. 21 starting at 7 p.m., followed by a home match against Kent State on Saturday, Sept. 22 beginning at 7 p.m. Last weekend BG played at the Purdue Active Ankle Challenge Sept. 14-15, beating Alabama-Birmingham and Jacksonville State before losing to Purdue to move to 4-7 on the season. Individually, junior Paige Penrod was named to the all-tournament team at Purdue, marking the second consecutive week she was honored. Penrod also was named MAC East Division offensive player of the week.
