WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: The next race for the Falcons will be at the Buffalo Stampede Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15.
MEN'S GOLF: The Falcons will host the John Piper Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 17-18. BG opened the 2012 fall schedule by finishing 14th at the Marshall Invitational Sept. 10-11. Senior Wes Gates fired rounds of 73-69-65 to tie for third place in the 88-player field.
WOMEN'S GOLF: The Falcons will be busy this weekend, splitting the squad into two teams to compete in two tournaments spread over three days. Part of the team will play at the Ursuline College Fall Tournament in Pepper Pike, Ohio, on Friday, Sept. 14. The rest of the squad will compete at the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 15-16. On Sept. 8-9 BG finished second at the Redbird Invitational. The Falcons were led by junior Bailey Arnold, who tied for sixth with a three-round 229 total, while sophomore Shelby Wilson tied for 15th with a 232 score.
MEN'S SOCCER: The Falcons will play at Cleveland State on Friday, Sept. 14, before returning to Cochrane Field to host Detroit on Tuesday, Sept. 18, starting at 7 p.m. Last week BG lost once and tied once at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The Falcons moved to 1-2-2 on the season after losing to Wofford 1-0 on Friday, then bouncing back to earn a 3-3 double-overtime tie with 18th-ranked Coastal Carolina on Sunday. Sophomore Danny Baraldi, leads the team with three goals and six points, while freshman Ryan James, junior Anthony Grant and senior Chris McLean each have a pair of assists. Defensively, junior goalkeeper Michael Wiest has a 1.10 goals-against mark.
WOMENS SOCCER: The Falcons will begin a four-game homestand by hosting a pair of teams from Illinois this weekend. BG will host Illinois State at Cochrane Field on Friday, Sept. 14, starting at 7 p.m., then play Loyola (Chicago) at Cochrane on Sunday, Sept. 16 starting at 1 p.m. Bowling Green is 1-5-0 this season after suffering a 3-0 loss at Valparaiso Sept. 9. Junior Tracy Togba leads the team in scoring with three points this year thanks to a goal and an assists. Senior goalkeeper Becca Ison has a 2.90 goals-against average.
TENNIS: The Falcons open the fall season by competing in the Ohio State Muirfield Village Collegiate Championships in Columbus on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 14-16.
VOLLEYBALL: The Falcons will complete the non-conference portion of the schedule with three games at the Purdue Active Ankle Challenge on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 14-15. BG will face Alabama-Birmingham and Jacksonville State on Friday, the face the host school, which is ranked 14th nationally, on Saturday night. Last weekend the Falcons posted a 1-2 record at the BYU Nike Invitational in Provo, Utah, beating Portland State on Friday before losing to the host school and Utah on Saturday. BG currently is 2-6 this season. Individually, junior Paige Penrod was named to the all-tournament team at BYU; junior Kaitlyn Skinner earned similar honors at the Indiana Invitational, and junior Danielle Tonyan earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the Marquette Challenge.
