This is the first installment in what (hopefully) will be a weekly update on the Falcon football team as it prepares for the 2012 season. This week includes information on roster changes since the end of the year …
First, some subtractions from the BGSU roster. Three players have left the program since last season ended: quarterback Trent Hurley transferred to Delaware, defensive back Aunre Davis transferred to Mercyhurst, and running back Erique Geiger has left the program (at last word, he had not decided where he would be transferring).

Second, a few additions to the BG roster. Several future Falcons already have arrived on campus and already are part of the conditioning program, which means they also will take part in spring ball.
Two players on campus are junior college signees who will be announced next Wednesday. One is Michael Allen, a wide receiver who played at East Los Angeles Junior College. Allen's case is an interesting one: he was the team's offensive MVP in 2010 and expected to sign with San Diego State. But he came up a class short of graduating, and San Diego State didn't save his scholarship.
Allen completed the coursework in the fall to regain eligibility and presumably will be eligible to play this fall.
The second junior college product is David Kekuewa, an offensive lineman from Arizona Western Junior College. Kekuewa was a junior-college All-American who played center last fall, so he will add depth to the Falcons' offensive line.
If you see him walking around campus, hand him some gloves or a hat -- he was born and reared in Hawaii, so he's probably seeing snow for the first time.
Two high school players have enrolled in school this spring: Jermal Hosley, a wide receiver, and linebacker Coy Brown.
Hosley signed with the Falcons last February but was injured in the summer, so he delayed his enrollment until January. Click here to read his story.
Brown graduated early from NorthWest High School in Nappanee, Ind., and has enrolled this spring. His high school coach, Scott Hoover, raved about Brown's athletic skills and leadership, so he should have a chance to earn immediate playing time at BG.
Also enrolled at BG is Andre Givens, a highly regarded running back from the recruiting class of 2010. My understanding is that he is not allowed to practice with the team until he satisfies some eligibility issues, but he should help the Falcons at running back should he become eligible. I have been contacting high school and junior college coaches to confirm Bowling Green's list of signees in advance of National Signing Day, which is this coming Wednesday, Feb. 1. I will have more info on some of the players BG is expected to sign on Sunday or Monday.
But if you are watching the recruiting lists, one name that is incorrect is Nigel Westbrooks, a wide receiver from Palomar Junior College in California. His coach (unhappily) told me that Westbrooks has de-committed to BG and instead has committed to the University of Nevada, which is in Reno, Nev.
And by "unhappily," I mean the coach was unhappy that his player had not honored his commitment to BG.
And, to answer the obvious question: I don't have any information/comments from coach Dave Clawson because he and his coaches are not allowed to speak about signees until those players officially sign a National Letter of Intent, which happens starting Wednesday.
NEXT WEEK: More from national signing day.
