Here's a thumbnail look at one of the high school players who is expected to sign with the Falcons Wednesday, LB Coy Brown.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-0, 220
HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL: Wakarusa, Ind./NorthWood
BY THE NUMBERS: As a senior he played on both sides of the ball, finishing with 178 rushing attempts for 1,154 yards and 15 TDs while catching seven passes for 121 yards. On defense he finished with 78 tackles, including 38 solo stops. He also had two interceptions and one sack. He was a three-time all-conference pick. He also was named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association's "Top 50," which lists the 50 best football players in the state regardless of division (NorthWood H.S. is a 4A school, or smallest division in the state). Also was named to the "Top 20" by Gridiron Digest.
WORTH NOTING: Brown already has completed his work towards high school graduation and is enrolled at BG. He is taking part in off-season conditioning and will practice with the Falcons during the spring.
HIGH SCHOOL COACH SCOTT HOOVER SAID: "I can't understate all the benefits Coy brought to our team. His defensive stats were good, but teams ran away from him all the time. And he rarely came off the field; he played defense all the time, and on offense we would play him at tailback one series, fullback one series and rest him one series. But even more importantly, Coy was our best worker and the nicest kid. He did everything the right way. When we ran a drill in practice, he would try to run the drill perfectly. Our young guys benefited from watching how he did things and how he carried himself."
COACH DAVE CLAWSON SAID: "He had a great junior year as a tailback. We had him in camp this year, and we love his athleticism: his ability to change direction, he's physical and he's tough. ... He's a versatile athlete. He has a chance to be an excellent linebacker, and he will be a versatile special teams player for us."
