Hutson, a native of Detroit, blocked a punt and recovered a fumbled kickoff return in the Falcons’ 37-23 win on the road at Miami Saturday.
The block came late in the second quarter and set up a 1-yard touchdown pass from Matt Schilz to Kendall Montgomery to give BGSU a 20-14 lead.
The fumble recovery came at a critical point in the game as Miami had just scored to cut the Falcons’ lead to 30-23 with 11:03 to play in the fourth quarter. The Falcons' Eugene Cooper fumbled the ensuing kickoff, but Hutson out-muscled two Miami players for the ball at the BG 3-yard line. Two plays later Anthon Samuel went 96 yards for a score the game's final points.
The award marked the fourth MAC honor by the Falcons this season. Junior DT Chris Jones was the league's East Division defensive player of the week following the Idaho victory; Cooper, a senior wide receiver, was the MAC's East Division offensive player of the week after the win over Morgan State; and junior LB Dwayne Woods was the MAC's East Division defensive player of the week after the Wyoming game.
The Falcons play at West Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 1, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
