An analysis of the members of the BG men's basketball team, looking at sophomore forward A’uston Calhoun.
BY THE NUMBERS: Calhoun averaged 12.5 points per game, tops on the team and 15th in the MAC. He shot 43.6 percent from the field, including 23.5 percent on 3-pointers. He also shot 72.7 percent from the foul line. Calhoun averaged 5.6 rebounds per game, second-best on the team and 14th in the MAC. He also had 25 blocked shots to lead the team in that category.
WORTH NOTING: Calhoun stepped up his play as the season wore on; in fact, his numbers in MAC games were better than his season totals (14.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg). That was because he stayed on the floor longer because he played better defense. Calhoun proved he can score from any point on the floor; what’s more, his ability to convert near the rim was exceptional.
SUMMER TO-DO LIST: Just because you can make a shot from anywhere on the floor doesn’t mean you should shoot from anywhere on the floor. Better shot selection will improve his shooting percentage as much (or perhaps more) than working on the shot would. And continued work on defense is a must, because foul trouble stopped Calhoun in more games than opponent defenses did.
