The Mid-American Conference suspended Central Michigan DL Joe Kinville for one game for "violating the MAC Sportsmanlike Conduct Bylaws" in the Chippewas' loss at Northern Illinois last Saturday.
According to a league release, the MAC determined that Kinville's actions in the fourth quarter of the NIU contest violated Section 8.03, which addresses striking or physically abusing an official, opposing coach or player.
According to Drew Ellis, sports writer for the Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun, Kinville dropped an elbow or forearm on a Huskie player during a pile-up in the fourth quarter of the contest. Kinville was not penalized on the play.
"The behavior of Joe Kinville during the Central Michigan-Northern Illinois contest is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," MAC commissioner Dr. Jon Steinbrecher said in a release. "I want to thank CMU coach Dan Enos and CMU athletic director David Heeke for the proactive manner in which they have addressed this matter."
"We support the MAC's disciplinary action and apologize to Northern Illinois and its football program," Enos said. "We do not condone unsportsmanlike acts for any kind, and Joe understands that his actions have no place in the game of college football."
"I apologize to Northern Illinois and its football program, my teammates, coaches and CMU for my actions on Saturday," Kinville said in a release. "As a student-athlete, I am expected to represent my school and team with class, and I regret that I failed to do that during Saturday's game."
