In an effort to have a little fun with the Coop Scoop blog, I am producing a (somewhat) daily trivia quiz called "Mud Hen Mindbender." No prize; this is just a way to get your day moving. Ready? Here we go ...
The roster for Indianapolis, the team in town to face the Mud Hens tonight, features Anderson Hernandez. Hernandez originally was signed by the Tigers but never played in Toledo. Instead he was traded by Detroit in January of 2005 to the New York Mets. Who did the Tigers get in return for Hernandez?
The answer to July 9 question? The Triple-A All-Star team celebrated its 25th anniversary this season. Where was the first Triple-A All-Star Game played? The same place this year’s game was played, Buffalo.
Do you think you know the answer to today’s question? Click on the "comments" link below and give us your answer! I'll post the answer tomorrow along with another trivia question. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Matt Ginter? I know he came from the Mets and started with Detroit rigt around 2005 or 2006.

Phil: Good guess, but not correct. Ginter came to the Tigers from the Mets for ... hey, wait a second. Let's use that as a SECOND question. Who did the Tigers trade to New York to get Ginter?

Question #1 - C Vance Wilson
Posted by: Pepper Leach | 07/23/2012 at 01:10 PM
Hmm, for the Ginter trade, my guess is Mr. Infinite ERA Lino Urdaneta.
Posted by: Phil | 07/23/2012 at 01:47 PM
Pepper: You are correct. Good work!
Phil: Urdaneta was a Rule 5 pick. The guy who was sent to NY was a pitcher, but a guy who didn't do much in a short tenure. Lefty.
Any other guesses?

Question #2 - LHP Steve Colyer
Posted by: Pepper Leach | 07/23/2012 at 02:16 PM
Steve Colyer... of course. I do remember fans on message boards rejoicing when Colyer was traded. Ugh, just thinking of the terrible relievers pre-2006 makes me shudder.

Good work again, Pepper. So here's the clincher: who did the Tigers trade to get Colyer? The trade was with the Dodgers, if that helps ...
Posted by: John_Wagner | 07/23/2012 at 02:55 PM
This trade I actually remember and it will go down as one of the most lopsided in recent Tiger history because of the career this player has had. They traded away everybody's favorite Mud Hen Cody Ross to the Dodgers (thank you for the Dodgers hint).

But Phil do you have the Mud Hens' Cody Ross bobblehead?
Posted by: Pepper Leach | 07/23/2012 at 03:18 PM
Yes, I do actually. My Mud Hens bobblehead collection consists of Muddy (first bobblehead they ever gave away), Ross, Hessman, and Jim Weber. I forget how many bobbleheads I have overall (around 50 or 60), but the Mud Hens are well represented in that collection.

Well done, Phil. Here's an OBSCURE bit of trivia: On what day did the Cody Ross-Steve Colyer trade take place?
Posted by: John_Wagner | 07/23/2012 at 03:29 PM
My wild guess would be April 1st, aka April Fool's Day.
Posted by: Phil | 07/23/2012 at 03:34 PM
Phil: WELL DONE! Ross actually thought it was a joke when he heard about the trade.
Hey, one final question for today: Who did the Mets trade to get Matt Ginter? Here's a hint: the deal was with the White Sox.

If it walks like an LI Duck...

Pepper is on the right track ... can someone put a name to his hint?
Posted by: John_Wagner | 07/23/2012 at 05:37 PM
Played for the Hens after the trade...
Posted by: Pepper Leach | 07/23/2012 at 05:44 PM
From Pepper's hint and a recent "Where Are They Now?" it has to be the one and only Timo Perez.
