Mud Hens closer Chris Bootcheck has been selected to represent the International League in the Triple-A All-Star Game, which will be played in Buffalo on Wednesday, July 11.
The announcement was made by the International League Wednesday. The Pacific Coast League team will be announced Thursday.
Bootcheck was one of two relief pitchers who was elected to the team in a vote of fans (1/3 of vote), media (1/3 of vote), and both managers and general managers (1/3 of vote) from around the IL. Those three groups combined to name one player at each position (expect three in the outfield) as well as at DH, along with two starting pitchers and two relievers.
The rest of the team is selected by the IL Office, and all 14 league teams are represented. Bootcheck was the only Mud Hen named to the team.
The 33-year-old right-hander has a 1-2 record with 14 saves and a 3.62 ERA in 29 appearances for Toledo. His 14 saves are second-most in the IL this season.
Bootcheck's honor marked the third time in five seasons a Toledo closer was named to the IL All-Star team. Blaine Neal earned that honor in 2008 and Jay Sborz was named to the squad in 2010.
