Back by popular demand ... In an effort to have a little fun with the Coop Scoop blog, I am producing a (mostly) daily trivia quiz called "Mud Hen Mindbender." No prize; this is just a way to get your morning moving. Ready? Here we go ...
I am taking a player-by-player look at last year's Mud Hens as we begin the off-season, so I am asking a few questions about last season. Here is today's question: Which Mud Hen pitcher got opponents to hit into the most double-plays last season?
The answer to Thursday's question? Which Mud Hen had the best batting average at home last season? That was Scott Sizemore, who batted .471 (16-for-34) in 10 games at Fifth Third Field last year.
Do you think you know the answer to today’s question? Click on the "comments" link below and let's find out! I'll post the answer tomorrow along with another trivia question. Looking forward to hearing from you!

I'm going with Adam Wilk. Few walks, few strikeouts, decent number of innings and if I'm remembering correctly, a decent number of hits allowed.

The logic is solid, but the walk number is SO low (14 in more than 100 innings) that his WHIP is very low, as is his number of double plays (just six).
Believe it or not, EIGHT other Mud Hen pitchers had more double play grounders induced than Wilk.
Any other good guesses?

I'll guess crafty lefthander Fu-Te Ni.

We have moved up the ladder, but only a small step. Ni coaxed opponents to hit into eight double plays, and FOUR Mud Hens pitchers had more.
Any other guesses?

Andrew Oliver, Duane Below

Okay, Thad Weber had a lot of people on base so I'll look to him next.

Craig: You are correct, Oliver and Below led the team with 15 apiece.
Matt: Weber is a good guess ... he finished fourth on the team, with 11.
Everyone: As you can see, there's a gap. Which Mud Hens pitcher was third? He finished with 14, for the record ...

Good guess, Jack. Read Sunday's analysis for a hint (or for the answer, actually) ...
