The Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters has endorsed Issue 2 to bring the redistricting of Statehouse and Congressional districts in Ohio under the control of a nonpartisan board.
The firefighters union's experience with Senate Bill 5 from 2011 (failed effort to undermine public union bargaining power) is cited in its choice to endorse the reform, which is backed by Democrats and opposed by Republicans.
Said Dan Desmond, vice-president of the Toledo Fire Fighters Local 92, “we have seen the extreme nature of politicians in Ohio last year with Senate Bill 5. Stopping drastic, unfair voting districts will help put an end to policies like this."
"Yes on Issue 2 will protect the power of each Ohioan’s vote as well,” Desmond said.
