Both the Mitt Romney and Barack Obama campaigns are launching tough new negative advertisements on television today – including the first one in Toledo from the Romney campaign.
The Romney spot accuses President Obama of “paying off” political supporters with stimulus funds and sending money overseas.
The ad, titled “Where Did All The Money Go?” focuses on Solyndra, the California solar cell manufacturer that received $535 million in loans from the Obama administration and then went bankrupt. Its release coincides with Romney’s campaign appearances today in Toledo and Bowling Green.

Romney’s campaign has not previously aired commercials in Toledo. However, there have been plenty of anti-Obama ads aired by third-party political action committees that support Romney and oppose Obama, but which are prohibited from coordinating with the candidate.
Meanwhle, the new Obama ad claims Romney “has interests in tax havens and off-shore accounts,” and questions why he refuses to release more than a single year of his tax returns.
“Makes you wonder if some years he paid any taxes at all,” the ad narrator says, and asks, “What is Mitt Romney hiding?”
