Downtown Toledo's long-neglected Promenade Park is finally getting a facelift.
On Tuesday, dump trucks brought "foundry sand" - from the abandoned Unit-Cast foundry in East Toledo - to the area where the Federal Building used to stand. Since the demolition of the federal building almost 20 years ago, the area has been a useless slope from Summit Street down to Water Street, with no view of the river.
The new plan is to eliminate Water Street and raise the level of the area some 10 feet to give an open view of the Maumee River and a planned amphitheater along the riverfront.
