Looking at the president election results in Ohio by Congressional district it's clear that most Rick Santorum voters did not consider Mitt Romney their second choice - but quite a few did.
When Santorum was not on the ballot, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul saw their share of the vote nearly approximately double.
The three districts where Santorum's name did not appear on the ballot for the congressional district delegates were: 6th - rural southeast; 9th - urban Toledo to Cleveland; and 13th - urban Youngstown to Akron.
Gingrich's average in the Congressional districts where he had to compete with Santorum was 15%. His share of the three non-Santorum districts was 31%, 27%, and 31%.
Paul's average in the Congressional districts where Santorum competed was 10%. It jumped to 19%, 18%, and 18% in the three non-Santorum districts.
For Gingrich and Paul, not to mention Jon Huntsman and Rick Perry, whose share more than doubled, those were by far their best districts of the night.
And how did Romney do?
He also picked up votes in those three districts, but not to the extent the others did. Romney's share of the vote was 38% in the non-Santorum districts. It went up to 41%, 50% and 45% in 6, 9, and 13.
Romney's best showing of the night was in the 9th Congressional district, which stretches from central Toledo through resort and urban communities in Ottawa, Erie, and Lorain counties, to suburban Cleveland (Kucinich country).
In that district - the one in which Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher narrowly won the GOP nomination to run against Democrat Marcy Kaptur - Romney won 50 percent of the Republican vote.
