Van Buren State Park will host "The Familiar Face of the Monarch Butterfly" on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Nature Center Shelterhouse No. 2. There will be a powerpoint presentation on these beautiful insects, then a caravan to the park’s monarch rearing gazebo and garden, located in the family campground. The session offers a close-up look at live caterpillars and monarch butterflies, as well as information on the history of monarch butterfly tagging. Monarchs will be tagged and released during the event, and then likely headed for Mexico. Bring your camera. More information is available by calling 419-832-7662 on contacting park naturalist Natalie Miller at Natalie.Miller@dnr.state.oh.us
