The pond at Maumee Bay State Park will be reserved for kids only on Saturday, Aug. 25, when the Ohio Department of Natural Resources holds the second youth-only fishing experience of the summer. The Maumee Bay pond, located off lot No. 7 by the big hill, will be stocked with catchable-size channel catfish and hybrid bluegills before the event. A group of volunteers will be on hand to assist the young fishermen. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to anglers 15-years-old and younger, and each angler must be accompanied by an adult or guardian who is encouraged to assist the fishermen but are not permitted to fish in the pond. There are picnic tables and restrooms near the pond, and the young anglers are encouraged to wear hats, sunscreen and sunglasses to the event. Funding for the youth fishing day is provided through the purchases of Ohio fishing licenses and from the Sport Restoration Fund.
