Maumee full of fish -- walleyes

I've heard a number of fishermen complaining lately about the "run" being over and the Maumee River not holding many walleye any longer. After spending 3 hours last night with a fish-tagging crew, that assumption could not be further from the truth. Working off the boat launch at Orleans Park, the biologists shocked up hundreds of walleye in little time -- lots of big females still loaded with eggs and a legion of males, some in the five and six pound range. Saw a few carp, shad and a couple pike, but 95 percent of the fish that came to the surface were walleye. Reports of the end of the "run" are certainly premature.
